Rangpur District of Bangladesh

Travels in Rangpur District

Rangpur is the district in Northern part of Bangladesh. It is a part of Rajshahi Division.

Rangpur District selected from the bordered on the north by Nilphamari District, on the south by Gaibandha District, on the



east by Kurigram, and on the west by Dinajpur district. Rangpur town is the district headquarters. The soil composition is



mainly alluvial soil (80%) of the Teesta River basin, and the remaining is barind soil. The temperature ranges from 32

degrees Celsius to 11 degrees Celsius, and the annual rainfall averages 2931 mm.



The district has 3 municipalities, namely, Rangpur Main (Sadar), Badarganj, and Haragach, and eight Upazilas, namely:

* Badarganj
* Gangachara
* Kaunia
* Rangpur Sadar
* Mithapukur
* Pirgachha
* Pirganj
* Taraganj





Rangpur town, covering an area of around 43 square kilometers, lies on the bank of the Ghaghat river, and was turned into a

municipality back in 1869. The population of the Rangpur municipality as of 2006 is 251,699, with 52% male and 48% female,

and the literacy rate is 54.6%.

Education

Rangpur University is the only university in Rangpur district. The Rangpur Medical College, situated in Ranpur is one of

the major government medical colleges in Bangladesh. Carmichael College, established in 1916 by some leading zamindars, is

a postgraduate college offering courses in 14 subjects in the faculties of arts, social science, science and commerce. The

most renowned school in this region are Cantt. Public School & College, Rangpur (CPSCR) and Rangpur Zilla School. Zilla

School is established in 1832, this higher secondary school is known for the quality of education it offers.



Other prominent educational institutions include Rangpur Govt. College, Begum Rokeya College and Govt. Commercial Institute.

Besides there is one polytechnic institute, one vocational institute, around 282 high schools, 722 government primary

schools, 38 junior high schools, 193 NGO operated schools and almost 370 Madrasahs in Rangpur.

Jatiyo Sangshad Bhaban houses the Parliament of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is the country of parliamentary democracy. All citizens of Bangladesh 18 years old or over are vote direct elections held every five years for the unicameral parliament known as Jatiya Sangsad.

Currently the national parliament has 345 members including 45 reserved seats for women, elected from single-member constituencies.

The Constitution of Bangladesh was drafted in the year 1972 and has undergone fourteen amendments.

Bangladesh Awami League won the December 29, 2008 poll, in a landslide victory. They got 230 seats among 300 seats in the parliament. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expanded the Bangladeshi cabinet to bring the total size to 44 on 31 July 2009 .

Barishal Division in Bangladesh

Barisal division is very attractive sea beach area and biggest forest Sundarbon in the south west part of Bangladesh, has an area of 13297 sq. km and a population of 8.11 million. There are 6 districts and 22 municipalities under Barisal. It is a revering area. Barishal is a Division of rivers and canals. It is also famous for gardens of coconut trees and amra. You will find thousands of coconut trees throughout Barishal Division. Kuakata is the main tourist spot in the division. In Barishal town you can visit Durga Sagor - a beautiful Dighi where lot of guest birds comes every winter season. This is also a beautiful park where you can spend your leisure time by roaming around the park and watching the birds.

Kuakata:

Kuakata, known as Sagar Kannya (Daughter of the Sea) is a rare scenic beauty spot on the southernmost site of Bangladesh. Kuakata in Latachapli union under Kalapara Police Station of Patuakhali district is about 30 km in length and 6 km in breadth. It is 70 km from Patuakhali district headquarters and 320 km from Dhaka.

At Kuakata excellent combination of the picturesque natural beauty, sandy beach, blue sky, huge expanse of water of the Bay and evergreen forest in really eye-catching. From its seashore you can watch both sunrise and sunset. The coconut trees increase the scenic beauty of this seashore.

The main tourist season is in winter but all over the year tourists visit this place. In Kuaka you can visit the life style of tribe Rakhains, who are very friendly to the tourist and visitors.

You can visit Buddhist Temple where you can see the statue of Goutom Buddha and two wells of 200 years old. Local name of the well is Kua and Kata is a local name of digging a well; so was the name Kuakata. Fisherman village is another place where you can visit and watch the lifestyle of the Fisherman.
